Carol D. Misiewicz
B.A., LL.B (Hons), C.L.E.
Carol Misiewicz has a background that spans the spectrum of all aspects
of both public and private practice. Called to the Bahamas Bar in 1989
she began a career with the Attorney General’s Office, rising to
the level of Senior Counsel. As crown counsel she was required to give
legal advice to all government ministries and departments, to vet and
draft agreements and prosecute and defend civil claims at Supreme Court
level. Before departing that office Mrs. Misiewicz held acting appointments
as Registrar General and Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court.

In
1995 she entered private practice with one of
the largest firms in The Bahamas where she conducted
civil trials and defended personal
injury claims, appearing
before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
In addition, she wrote legal opinions for local
and overseas clients on a range of matters and
tutored attorneys with the firm.
In 2001, she returned to public practice as a judicial officer when she
was appointed a Stipendiary and Circuit Magistrate. As a first instance
judge Mrs. Misiewicz presided over civil and criminal, and juvenile and
family cases, both in New Providence and on circuit.
Promoted to the position of Deputy Registrar of the
Supreme Court in 2006, she was designated Manager for the Family Division
of the Supreme Court Registry. As registrar she heard and determined
interlocutory applications in all Divisions of the Court, assessed damages
in personal injury claims and conducted dispute resolution conferences.
She returned to private practice in 2007.
Mrs. Misiewicz (formerly Munnings) has been an examiner for the Royal
Bahamas Police Force Forensic Division, and is currently an Associate
Tutor at the Eugene Dupuch Law School.
