Carol
Misiewicz is a Bahamian attorney with extensive experience
in both the public and private sectors. She spent six years
as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General, as
a criminal prosecutor initially, and later moved to the prosecution
and defence of civil cases in the Supreme Court. While still
attached to the A.G.’s Office Mrs. Misiewicz held acting
appointments as Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court and
Registrar General respectively.
Following a
six-year period in private practice with one of the leading local law firms Mrs.
Misiewicz was appointed to the post of Stipendiary and Circuit
Magistrate. As a first instance judge she presided over a range of matters including
criminal trials, traffic cases, preliminary inquiries, juvenile and family cases,
and civil claims. After five years as a magistrate she was appointed Deputy Registrar
of the Supreme Court, where she heard and determined interlocutory applications
in all Divisions of the Court, assessed damages in personal injury claims, conducted
dispute resolution conferences, and presided as a taxing master in the taxation
of attorneys’ Bills of Costs.
Upon returning
to private practice in 2007 Mrs. Misiewicz established the firm
of MISIEWICZ & CO. where she is head of chambers and Firm
Manager. She specializes in Civil and Commercial Litigation, Probate and Estate
Litigation, Quieting Titles, Personal Injury defence, Immigration and Naturalization
Law, Probate and Administration of Estates.
Mrs. Misiewicz
is a former examiner for the Royal Bahamas Police Force Forensic Division and
a former Associate Tutor for the Eugene Dupuch Law School. She is
an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the
Rotary Club of Nassau and a member of Grace Community Church.
